Three Lakes: Azalea, Flora, Angela - near Soda Springs, CA

This was a beautiful day and a lovely hike. Lora picked out going toward Donner Lake, and she had intended that we only see the first two lakes - Azalea Lake and Flora Lake. After looking at the map, we could see Lake Angela was only about a half mile further, so it ended up being a day of three lakes. There was light snow on the ground, but we solved that with pull on spikes, which helped considerably with slips. This area is part of the Pacific Crest Trail, where many of our hikes are part of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

We took the trail from the red part on down to where the blue GPS dot is at. In total is was around four miles on the day.

The first little pond we encountered (not named on the map) was partially frozen. The pattern looked like underwater sand dollars, it was really pretty and unique.

The far side of Flora Lake had a waterfall feeding out of it down the side of the mountain. It sounded lovely.

Ron tried out the optical zoom on his new smartphone.

There were a bunch of baby trees along the side of the backroads and trails. Like hundreds.

Lora took an epic picture of the wispy golden grass backed by mountain and layered with lake. This is her getting that shot.
