Off the back porch, May-June 2021 - Reno, NV

Walking in the neighborhood at Carat Pond with Lilli. It was an interesting night, just before sunset the water looked pink and the sky was orange, with many droid birds (yellow headed blackbirds) making their sound in the tall grass on the water.

There are also many types of ducks, black necked stilts, and red winged blackbirds. The red winged blackbirds make a trilling sound that is nice.

This is a lemon daylilly, part of the flowers growing in our front yard this spring.

Playing golf with Lilli at Toiyabe near Carson City.

A storm was blowing up while we were still on the golf course.

A Robinson Crabapple in bloom near the house.

Summer Day at Skunk Harbor on Lake Tahoe

Lora found a huge pinecone from a Sugar Pine - about two feet long, the biggest we've found so far. The trees here are mostly a mix of pines and redwood - not the largest of either type, but not small either, and the pine smell can be very strong and pleasant.

Lora is particularly good at finding snow plants - these are small, red plants that are usually found on their lonesome, not with many peer plants nearby and are related to azaleas, oddly enough. We found our first one at Callahan Park, and saw a couple dozen on the walk down at Skunk Harbor. We've been here before, but didn't notice them (probably covered with snow or not in season). This one was ~10 steps off the path in the underbrush.

Here's what a snow plant looks like up close.

To the south of Skunk Harbor is another small cove - it doesn't have a name on the map, but it's definitely around the corner from Skunk's left tip. It doesn't have sand, just rocky tumble into the lake.

Donner Pass - Azalea Lake and Flora Lake

This is such a beautiful place, and on this day made more perfect by the high, thin clouds that provided some shade during the hike. They ...
