Truckee River Walk - Verdi, NV and Floriston, CA

This trail follows the Truckee River fairly closely for a number of miles - we did a couple of them before returning to the car. The sound of the water was fantastic, and the air was cool.

Trains came and went on the tracks on the far side of the river. Tracks follow the river for dozens of miles, to well East of Reno.

Olympic Valley to Shirley Canyon

Olympic Valley is the renamed Squaw Valley area, located between Truckee and Tahoe City on Highway 89. It's a beautiful area, with the valley mostly being high mountain meadow between large peaks. The trail we chose was a short one (1.5 miles) that meets the Shirley Canyon trailhead. Despite the short length, there were many small waterfalls (and one large one), and it had some of the prettiest resting areas we've seen all summer. Many feet were soaked in mountain streams. :) The animal friends also had a big photo day.

Lora, barefoot in a clear mountain pool. The water was cool and the day was warm.

Incline Flume to Tyrolian Ridge

This is a gorgeous hike! It connects the area near Chickadee Ridge to the Incline Flume trail, both just west of Tahoe Meadows. Lots of big boulders, mule ears (a type of flower), and overlooks of Lake Tahoe. There was one great little sequoia tree here. :)

Timberline Drive, Whites Creek

Donner Pass - Azalea Lake and Flora Lake

This is such a beautiful place, and on this day made more perfect by the high, thin clouds that provided some shade during the hike. They ...
